SFL Friday -- Labor Day Edition

So that was some speech last night, huh? I mean the power, the intensity, the enthusiasm, the stagecraft, I think good people from both sides of the aisle can agree that Senator Dick Durbin quite simply NAILED IT.

Oh, you mean someone else spoke, too? He wasn't bad either, I guess.

Anyways on to a fruitful and exciting weekend. Thanks to that little Kraut Hurricane now swirling to our southwest, conditions do indeed look positive for a simply spectacular weekend, windsurfing-wise.

I do hope you all have a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable holiday, wherever the winds may take you.

Hi kiddies, well Tropical Storm Fay is upon us like some wet juicy French Kiss, shutting downtown office buildings completely, closing the courthouses, messing up depositions, court filings, travel plans, schools, you pretty much name it. She's like that!

I hope you all are ridin' the storm out safe and sound, snuggled in and hunkered down.

Me, I suddenly found some free time and excellent surf conditions on my hands, I think you can pretty much take it from there....

Leslie Smith Has A Comfy New Chair

To certain emailers, sorry I didn't get around to it as I was working on important windsurfing plans, but ok ok -- here you go:

Foley & Lardner partner Leslie Smith has been named to the newly created position of litigation chair in the firm’s Miami office.

Her new responsibilities include mentoring, training, assignments and associate career developments.

Smith, who is part of the firm’s distribution and franchise practice, litigates commercial matters at the trial and appellate levels in federal and state courts.

There, happy now? And by the way, congrats to Leslie, who we know will do a great job in this challenging position. Now, back to important planning.....

“I Cook With Wine, Sometimes I Even Add It To The Food.”

That old W.C. Fields line is ringing in my head, as the wind kicks up and rip tides batter the coast.

I have to be honest, with the emerging conditions, I've moved two client meetings and a few conference calls. Why? I'm heading out to the Key for some windsurfing, and maybe put together a nice dinner with someone special.

I may be back tomorrow, but if things are good it probably won't be 'til Friday.

Windsurfing Time

I am informed by my windsurfing pals that the next few days look pretty good for those who only lawyer only as an excuse to windsurf (you know who you are, and there are more of us than you think).

So unless the weather changes I'm cancelling some depos, moving a court date, and ignoring a request to schedule a mediation for the next couple of days so I can hang on the Key, get loaded, and windsurf my arse off.

If the winds die down I'll drop in on you all but otherwise enjoy the rest of the week.
